A local challenge

The original specification for this project was for two internally illuminated wall mounted stainless steel tray signs with push through lettering installed above the main entrance along with a similarly constructed street level sign mounted on the balcony wall. After our second site meeting we were informed of a design change by the new architect; the signs would require an illuminated central band to achieve a floating look to the front fascia. The complexity of the design increased and so did the weight of the structure which was particularly concerning for the higher level signs. To add to this problem the location of the sign was changed; the signs were to over sail the front fascia.

From our perspective this completely changed our ideas on how the signs were constructed; not only were the signs already complex in structure but there was now not enough direct area to fix to and the fascia could not be used to take any load bearing.  As a first for Sign Systems our designer started from scratch but this time in 3D and his diligence found the solution and the new structure was built.

The Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall are one of Nottingham’s prestigious attractions. As a local sign company, Sign Systems were totally committed to the successful outcome of this project. The contract deadline was looming and so was Christmas, as a collective effort involving other staff members the deadline was achieved.  This increased the morale because we knew as a company that we all played a part to bring the project together and the signage was built and installed to a high standard.  As in all successful projects; it’s always down to teamwork and on this project the contractor played their part too in assisting with our surveys, information feed and installation. It was a good way to begin our Christmas celebrations!
